Saving lives by donating blood for the 100 th time

Service clubs faithfully hold clinics

- JEFF DORNAN norwoodnews@nexicom.net

For the past 18 years the Norwood Lions and Lioness Clubs have faithfully hosted blood donor clinics in the village. The local service clubs were once again on hand to assist with the latest drive held at the Norwood Town Hall on June 23.

Many participants are repeat donors who give regularly and loyally and this drive was no exception, however a special mention goes to Hannah B land who rolled up her sleeve to donate for the very first time and an extra special thank you goes to Pat Kelly. This fine gentleman donated for his 100th time, his selfless actions have helped to save potentially countless lives over the years.

A total of 31 units of blood (1 unit equals about a pint or half a liter) were collected during the latest drive; the blood will help save the lives of a tremendous cross section of our population ranging from accident victims to people in the hospital and many others. The Lions and Lioness extend their sincere thanks to everyone who supported the drive.

Clinics are held every three months at the town hall; please consider giving the gift of life at the next Blood Donor Clinic on September 22.

United over Strawberries

The Norwood \ Westwood United Church paid homage to one of summertime’s tasty treats as they hosted their annual Strawberry Supper on June 20. An overflowing crowd of about 600 eager diners filled the ice surface at the Asphodel Nor wood Community Centre to feast on turkey, ham, and a vast array of different salads and side dishes before enjoying cake and ice cream topped with the famous red berries all freshly picked of course. The United Church extends their thanks to everyone for their continued support and for making the annual supper a long standing tradition in the community.
