COMMUNITY REPORT 2017 – 2018
OUR COMMITMENT
In 2017, Peterborough Regional Health Centre (PRHC) launched its refreshed, three-year Strategic Plan. Developed in collaboration with our many partners and stakeholders, this plan has guided us over the past year as we have continued to build on our commitment to provide safe, highquality care for our patients.
This has been nothing short of a watershed year for PRHC. In 2017/18, we achieved a series of major milestones that have further defined us as a regional centre and helped to carve out our path toward a strong, sustainable future.
For the first time in 2017, we achieved Accreditation with Exemplary Standing – the highest possible level of Accreditation, awarded to organizations that “go beyond the requirements of Accreditation Canada and demonstrate excellence in quality improvement.”
Not long after this landmark achievement, PRHC and Peterborough Housing Corporation (PHC) jointly announced an innovative partnership to bring affordable, safe seniors’ supportive housing options to our community. This initiative continues to garner a great deal of attention and last fall, PRHC was recognized for its work on this project with a provincial Leading Governance Excellence Award.
At about the same time, our surgical program was internationally recognized with “Meritorious” standing for our surgical quality and safety results. Of nearly 800 hospitals across the U.S. and Canada participating in the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), we were among just 66 hospitals to achieve this designation, putting us in the company of worldclass organizations like Sunnybrook Health Sciences, Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins.
In April 2018, PRHC and Ross Memorial Hospital (RMH) committed to working together to explore further opportunities for integration. With a shared goal of providing the highest standard of health care for our patients, RMH and PRHC have been working together for many years to jointly deliver excellent care in this region. As the due diligence work related to potential integration progresses, we will continue to look beyond where we are now to envision where the future might take us – all while keeping the best interests of our patients at the forefront of the conversation.
Thank you to our patients and their families; to our leaders, healthcare professionals, staff and volunteers; and to our partners in the community and region for your ongoing insights, partnership and support. We look forward to embracing new challenges and opportunities as we launch into the next phase of our evolution as a regional health centre.
