Starship blasting off Musicfest Saturday

- JESSICA NYZNIK Examiner Staff Writer

A blast from the past will kick off Peterborough Musicfest Saturday night.

Starship is the opening act for the free bi-weekly summer outdoor concert series at Del Crary Park.

The band is best known for songs such as Fooled Around and Fell in Love, Jane, and Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.

In 1989, they released Knee Deep in the Hoopla, featuring We Built this City and Sara – both songs hit No. 1 on the Billboard, helping the album go platinum.

Their music has appeared on the soundtracks of Rock of Ages, Guardians of the Galaxy, Skeleton Twins, and in the television show Glee.

The psychedelic rock band takes the stage at 8 p.m.

Musicfest runs every Wednesday and Saturday night until Aug. 25.

If there’s a storm and the show need to be cancelled, an announcement will be made at 7:45 p.m. (There’s no guarantee bands will be rescheduled).

Musicfest is presenting 18 free concerts this year, featuring a total of 20 acts.

On Sunday, The Jerry Cans will perform for Canada Day.

They’re an Inuit throat-signing folk-country quintet based out of Nunavut. The group performs many of their songs in Inuktitut, the language of Inuit people.

The Jerry Cans have released three albums.
