Nominations for the upcoming municipal election continue to roll in for Peterborough County’s eight townships.

The municipal election is on Oct. 22 and the deadline to file nominations is July 27.

In Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, Mayor Ron Gerow won’t be seeking re-election. Gerow recently had a “serious surgery” and is taking time to recover. He isn’t ruling out a return to local politics, though, Gerow told The Examiner in early June.

Deputy Mayor Jim Martin is now vying for mayor. He’ll be up against former deputy mayor Andy Sharpe, who is also running for mayor.

That leaves Township Ward Coun. David Gerow as the only candidate so far who’s filed for deputy mayor.

No one has filed for Town Ward yet, and incumbent Barry Pomeroy faces Johnathan Prosser in Village Ward.

Councillor at large incumbent Hart Webb is the only person to file for councillor at large to date.

In Asphodel-Norwood Township, Mayor Terry Low said he hasn’t decided yet if he’ll run in the election.

Deputy Mayor Rodger Bonneau is the lone mayoral candidate so far.

Coun. Bernadette Vanderhorst is attempting to the move up the chain as well. She’s running for deputy mayor.

Five citizens have filed roles as councillors, including incumbents Roy Millet and Debbie Lynch, as well as Paula Warr and Kimberly Lutes.

Otonabee-South Monaghan Township and Cavan-Monaghan Township have few nominations on the roster.

Otonabee-South Monaghan’s longtime Reeve Dave Nelson told The Examiner on Friday that he will not be seeking re-election.

“There’s no reason. I’ve been at it for 43 years and it’s time to retire. I’ve really enjoyed the time,” Nelson told The Examiner.

Cavan Monaghan Mayor Scott McFadden hasn’t field for reelection but could not be reached Friday for comment.

Joe Taylor, Otonabee-South Monaghan’s deputy mayor and Peterborough County warden, has filed for reeve in his riding.

South Monaghan Ward incumbent Dennis Hannah is seeking re-election in his ward.

The only nomination in Cavan Monaghan is Millbrook ward incumbent Ryan Huntley, who is running for councillor again.

Douro-Dummer Township Mayor J. Murry Jones is seeking re-election and is running unopposed so far. The same goes for Deputy Mayor Karl Moher, according to the township website.

All three incumbent councillors are looking to get re-elected.

In Ward 1 (Douro), incumbent Ray Johnston is up against Heather Watson, and in Ward 2 (Dummer), incumbent Shelagh Landsmann currently stands alone.

Councillor at large incumbent Thomas Watt aims beat out newcomer Marc Trudeau.

Selwyn Township’s Mayor Mary Smith isn’t seeking reelection this year. She held a role in office for 20 years.

Looking to replace Smith is

Ron Black. He’s the only person to file for mayor to date.

Incumbent Deputy Mayor Sherry Senis is uncontested at the moment as she seeks re-election. The same goes for Donna Ballantyne, incumbent for Ennismore Ward, Anita Locke, incumbent for Lakefield Ward, and Gerry Herron, incumbent for Smith Ward.

In Trent Lakes Township, there’s no word yet if Mayor Bev Matthews will run again. She hasn’t filed yet.

Janet Clarkson and Harvey Ward Coun. Peter Raymond are ready for the spot though. They’ve both filed for mayor.

Ron Windover is running for deputy mayor again, but Adri Eastman is also after the post.

Peter Franzen is the lone candidate in Harvey Ward and Don Lacombe is on his own in Galway-Cavendish Ward, too.

No one has filed for councillor at large.

North Kawartha Township is filled with familiar faces this election.

Mayor Rick Woodcock has filed for mayor again and is facing Ward 2 coun. Carolyn Amyotte for the spot.

Deputy Mayor Doug Hutton is seeking re-election and will have to outdo Jim Whelan to get it.

Incumbent Ward 1 Coun. Jim O’Shea is on his own in Ward 1 so far, alongside incumbent counillor at large Roman Miszuk, who’s in the same boat.

Dave Wease is sole candidate for Ward 2.
