Body of missing swimmer found

The body of a 40-year-old man who fell off a houseboat Monday night on Pigeon Lake in Trent Lakes township was recovered Tuesday night.

The body was recovered by the OPP underwater search and rescue unit and was brought to shore around 7 p.m. after an allday search.

The houseboat was in the area of Boyd Island when the man attempted to assist a woman who was struggling in the water, Peterborou­gh County OPP.

The woman made it back into the boat but the man, believed to be from the Bowmanvill­e area, disappeare­d, police said.

Trent Lakes firefighte­rs, City of Kawartha Lakes paramedics along with Peterborou­gh County and Kawartha Lakes OPP officiers responded to the call around 6:30 p.m.

An OPP helicopter was used to look for the person but was unsuccessf­ul.

Two other people were taken by paramedics to hospital for treatment after being taken out of the water.

The houseboat was in the area for a few days, neighbours says.

Girl pulled from beach at Emily Provincial Park

A two-year-old girl was taken to hospital for treatment after being pulled from the water at a beach at Emily Provincial Park, about 25 kilometres west of Peterborou­gh, around 5:30 p.m. Sunday. City of Kawartha Lakes OPP did not have further informatio­n on the incident as of Tuesday.
