- EXAMINER STAFF

The Peterborough Sr. Varsity Wolverines made their longest trip of the season on Saturday when they travelled to Cornwall to face the Wildcats.

The Wolverines earned a well deserved 36-7 victory for their first win of the season. Both the Wolverines Bantam and Jr. Varsity squads enjoyed a bye weekend over the Canada Day long weekend.

The Wildcats received the opening kickoff and quickly marched down the field to score a touchdown.

The Wolverines were able to make adjustments on defense and scored a touchdown on a 33-yard pass interception return by Liam O’Neill to tie the game at 7-7 near the end of the first quarter.

The Wolverines took control of the game after that score and led 15-7 at the half. The second half was dominated by the Wolverines defense and their offence continued to function well by scoring 21 points to seal the 36-7 victory.

Scoring for the Wolverines were Nick Clarkin with 2 touchdowns, one was an exciting pass completion from QB Chase Batley for a 105 yard pass and run play for a touchdown. Scoring single touchdowns were Connor Murney, Chase Batley and Liam O’Neill. Zac Vesnaver recorded four successful convert kicks and added a single off a missed field goal attempt. Batley also recorded a single off a punt into the end zone.

The Wolverines are now preparing to play against the Oshawa Hawkeyes when all three Wolverines teams will host the Hawkeyes on Saturday at the Thomas A. Stewart Field on Armour Rd

The Bantams open the day with an 11 a.m. kickoff, the Jr. Varsity follow at 2 p.m. and the

Sr. Varsity contest is at 5 p.m. This should be an exciting day of football as the Wolverines are facing three good Hawkeyes squads.
