Crowley lacing up gloves for Belleville bout

Cody Crowley will fight a Mexican native with 26 wins in 34 bouts on the Hometown Heroes card July 14 at Belleville's Yardmen Arena.

Crowley will put his 14-0 record, with seven knockouts, on the line against Michi Munoz. The 37-year-old Munoz has knocked out 17 opponents in posting a 26-8 record. He’s lost his last two bouts.

It will be the semifinal to the main event featuring Belleville native and former Canadian heavyweigh­t champion Dillon (Big Country) Carman. Curve Lake’s Jordan McCue, who had a lengthy amateur career with Scrapyard Boxing Club, will make his pro debut against Mexico’s Alejandro Garcia (2-2).

In May, Crowley won the Canadian Profession­al Boxing Council's super-welterweig­ht national title with a 10-round unanimous decision over Hamilton's Kevin Higson at the Peterborou­gh Memorial Centre. It was his third consecutiv­e bout in his hometown.

The event is being promoted by Valhalla's Gate Promotions Ltd and the Belleville Senators. The evening will, which begins at 7 p.m., also features live music from two-time Juno nominee Karl Wolf. Former Canadian heavyweigh­t champion George Chuvalo will be a special guest.

Tickets, starting at $39 (plus service charge), are on sale through Ticketmast­er. Tables on the floor are sold as 10 seats. Tables in the Fan Zone and Mezzanine are sold as four seats.
