The Peterborough Wolverines won one game and lost two in an Ontario Football Conference triple header against the Oshawa Hawkeyes at Thomas A. Stewart Field on Saturday.

The Hawkeyes are one of the new clubs that have joined the OFC this year and brought three good teams to face the Wolverines.

Oshawa beat the Bantam Wolverines 35-12 and the Sr. Varsity Wolverines 30-6. The lone Wolverines win was a 38-21 Jr. Varsity victory.

The Bantam Wolverines were facing one of the top teams in their division and played well at times. Both teams fought hard in the opening half with the Hawkeyes scoring a touchdown with a little over a minute left to take a 8-0 lead at the half.

The Hawkeyes took control in the second half and sealed the 35-12 victory. Scoring for the Wolverines with single touchdowns were Nate Thomson and Spencer Watchorn.

Their record is now 2-4 and they have a bye this week, however, they will record a win by a forfeit due to the Etobicoke Bantams team folding. The final regular season game for the Bantams will be a part of a triple header when they host the Brampton Bulldogs on July 21 at TAS Field on Armour Rd.

The Jr. Varsity contest was a battle between two of the top teams in their division as they strive to be one of the final four teams that will qualify for the playoffs. The Wolverines took a great step in that direction in defeating a good Hawkeye squad 38-12, improving their record to 5-1.

Both teams battled each other on even terms with the Wolverines earning a 17-14 lead at the half.

The Wolverines made adjustments and outscored the Hawkeyes 21-7 in the second half to enjoy the hard fought 38-21 victory.

Scoring for the Wolverines with single touchdowns were Max LeVasseur, Kurt Cantello, Carson Harvey, George Kendall and Mack McFarlane.

Spenser Vesnaver converted five convert kicks and added a 16-yard field goal.

The Jr. Varsity Wolverines have two games remaining and look forward to closing out in style.

They travel to Brampton on Sunday and close out the regular season when they host the Sudbury Gladiators on July 21.

The Sr. Varsity game involved the Wolverines facing one of the stronger teams in their division with the Hawkeyes prevailing 30-7.

The visitors started strong and were able to build a 22-0 lead at the half. The second half play was much closer as the Hawkeyes outscored the Wolverines 8-7 to record their 30-7 victory.

The Wolverines touchdown was scored on an exciting 90-yard kickoff return by Matthew Funk to open the second half. Vac Vesnaver was successful with the convert kick.

The Sr. Varsity Wolverines have a bye this week and will finish their season when they will host Sudbury on July 21 as a part of a Wolverines triple header at the TAS Field.

The Bantams will play Brampton at 11 a.m., the Jr. Varsity face Sudbury at 2 p.m. and the Sr. Varsity team will close out the day against Sudbury at 5 p.m. on July 21.
