Clark facing Burton for deputy reeve in OSM
Bonnie Clark, a retired nurse and councillor at large in OtonabeeSouth Monaghan Township, is running for deputy reeve.
Clark worked as a nurse at Peterborough Regional Health Centre. She has served three terms as councillor at large.
She’s also a farmer: she lives on a fourth-generation family farm in Keene (their booth at the Peterborough Farmers’ Market is Millar Eggs and Roasting Chickens).
Clark and her husband have three grown children and four grandchildren.
The couple has operated a siding, window and door business for 25 years.
Clark is also the chairwoman of the board of directors for Peterborough Housing Corporation, the city and county’s largest social housing provider.
She states in a press release that she cares deeply about the future of Otonabee-South Monaghan Township.
“I have a vested interest: all of our children and their families live here,” she stated. “As a business owner, retired registered nurse and farmer, I pledge fiscal responsibility, dedication and hard work.”
There are four spots on council, in OSM Township: reeve, deputy reeve, councillor for Otonabee Ward, councillor for South Monaghan Ward and councillor at large.
Clark will run for deputy reeve against Marion Burton, a labour activist who is currently the township’s Otonabee Ward councillor.
So far the race for deputy reeve is between the two women: although Stephen St. Jean had previously filed for that position, he withdrew his nomination and refiled on July 9 for councillor at large.
Meanwhile the incumbent deputy reeve, Joe Taylor, is running for reeve (incumbent Reeve Dave Nelson won’t run for reelection – he’s retiring after 43 years on council).
Taylor is the only candidate so far to file nomination papers for reeve. He is also the warden of the Peterborough County.
There’s also a race for councillor in Otonabee Ward, where
Nick Powers and Greg Beard and both running.
Meanwhile in South Monaghan Ward, Dennis Hannah is seeking re-election (unopposed so far).
Candidates have until July 27 to file nomination papers. The municipal election is Oct. 22.
