James Lasenby is a new exhibitor at the Buckhorn Fine Arts Festival but he is not new to the festival. He has been a competitor in the Buckhorn Fine Art Festival art competition from 1991-2015. In 1996 and 1997 he won first place in the competition. In 2005 he won the Purchase Award. In 2010 he was awarded Best of Show.

Presently, James has an exhibit in the Algonquin Room at the Algonquin Park Visitor Centre. This spring he exhibited at the Art for Autism show at the

Mount in Peterborough. His work is featured in Andrew Elliott's book The Glorious Years Peterborough's Golden Age of Architecture 1840 - 1940. Building on these successes he will be an exhibiting artist at the Buckhorn Fine art Festival this August.

James was born and raised in Peterborough. He is a self-taught artist who strives for accuracy and realism in every piece he creates. Appreciation of nature began very early in his life, as James spent much of his time in the country visiting his cousin's home in Douro and camping in beautiful Algonquin Park.

James looks forward to being an exhibiting artist at BFAF.

Gallery on the Lake

In the midst of a power outage in which neighbors brought flashlights to assist in viewing the art of Mark Berens at his opening on the Gallery on the Lake four pieces were sold. With no hydro clients used cash or checks to buy those pieces which they had chosen.

Berens paints with oils. His experience at OCAD brought him to his connection with the use of oil. A trip to Whistler brought him out of his career with editorial illustration and into personal expression with oil and nature. Berens travels all over Canada in search of that next inspirational scene. He will be present along with his exhibit at the Gallery on the Lake on July 21.
