Jenny Lanciault running in Town Ward
A fifth candidate has entered the race for a seat in Town Ward in the municipal election in October.
Businesswoman Jenny Lanciault, 43, has lived in Peterborough for the last 25 years.
She and her husband Jim have a daughter who’s going into her second year at Queen’s University.
Lanciault says she spent her first decade in Peterborough working as a team leader at Canada Revenue Agency.
She left that job to pursue a dream to become self-employed: along with a business partner, she operated Girlie Girls Skin Care Centre on Hunter St. E. for 10 years.
Then she moved on to a new career in property and project management with a commercial construction company in Omemee, S.R. Steinsky Construction.
Now she wants to give back to the community, she states in her release, and in Town Ward she sees the potential for the downtown to “reinvent itself.”
“We have some amazing business and property owners as well as a DBIA working diligently to create a vibrant core,” she states. “I will work tirelessly to build on that effort.”
Lanciault also states in her release that the city needs to look after its elders.
“In addition to attracting and retaining new industry, jobs, and families, we have a responsibility to care for the people that built Peterborough,” she states.
“Accessing and securing services for seniors is challenging to say the least and the current wait times for long-term care beds in Peterborough is unacceptable ... we as a municipality need to work with provincial and federal governments to alleviate the stress within our community on the senior care system.”
Lanciault will run for one of two seats in Town Ward against incumbent Coun. Dean Pappas, as well as Jim Russell, Kemi Akapo and Jane Davidson.
The other Town Ward incumbent Diane Therrien is running for mayor.
Candidates have until July 27 to file their nomination papers at City Hall. The election is on Oct. 22.
