Artistic fun at Selwyn Public Library

Paint, poetry, book sale and more

There will be a PaintNite fundraiser for the Selwyn Public Library on Aug. 22 at 7 p.m. at the Ennismore Arena, located at 553 Ennis Road. Participan­ts will follow artist Cass Weyrich step by step to create a painting of their own to take home, and no prior experience is necessary. This is an age of majority event. The cost is $45 plus tax per person, and registrati­on is required at www.mypublicli­brary.ca.

The Lakefield Library will have a book sale during the Lakefield Sidewalk Sale on August 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Centennial Room. All sales are by donation, and proceeds support the Selwyn Public Library.

There will be a Poetry Night on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Lakefield Library. All are welcome to bring their favourite poetry to share. No registrati­on is required for this free event, and there will be cookies and refreshmen­ts available. Contact kgardiner@mypublicli­brary.ca for more informatio­n.

There will be a free summer Concert with musician Jake Differ with songs, stories and instrument­s galore. All ages are welcome. It will be on August 8 from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. at the Bridgenort­h Library. Register at www.mypublicli­brary.ca under Programs.

There will be two more free programs for a new “Dress for a mess” series for young children for ages 2-3. Register at www.mypublicli­brary.ca under Programs. Here are the activities and times:

• Windblown: Glue and stick, and stick some more. Wednesday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in Lakefield.

• Ish: Crumple, crumple and paint. Aug. 7 from 10:30 to 11 a.m. in Ennismore.

There will also be a free drop-in Kids LEGO Club every Friday for ages 4 and up until Aug. 24 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Bridgenort­h Library. Ages 8 and under attend with a caregiver. No registrati­on required. It’s an opportunit­y to play with the library’s giant LEGO collection and make your own creations to display in the library.

Community Care Lakefield

The Canadian Hearing Society will have a free Hearing Screening Clinic on July 25 at 40 Rabbit St. in Lakefield. The clinic is by appointmen­t, so phone 705-6528655 to book a time.

There will be a Starry Night Dance featuring True Confession­s at The Quarry Golf and Country Club on July 28. This is a fundraiser for Community Care, and tickets are $20 per person in advance or $25 at the door.

On August 2, there will be a Celebrate Summer Picnic at

12:30 p.m. at 40 Rabbit St. in Lakefield. The cost will be $5 per person.

Community Care’s Annual Walk-a-thon will be at 10:30 a.m. on August 25 starting at the Lakefield Legion, located at 10 Nicholls St. in Lakefield.

Christ Church Museum

Christ Church Community Museum will be open every afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. until Sept. 3. Displays this year will include preloved toys, the Bowker family and restoratio­n of the graveyard, Architect Kivas Tully and the Strickland family plus digital photograph­s of early life in Lakefield. For further informatio­n call Shirley Twist 705-749-2018. Christ Church Community Museum is operated by volunteers. Lakefield Farmers’ Market The Lakefield Farmers’ Market is now open for the season. The market will be every Thursday until Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the parking lot of the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, located at 20 Concession St. in Lakefield.
