Signs of Life: New exhibit at Art Gallery
Rod Mireau is from Saskatchewan but lives in Peterborough
The Art Gallery of Peterborough (AGP) has three exhibitions this summer and is a great place to visit on a rainy day or to keep cool in the summer heat. The gallery is open daily, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free.
Signs of Life is an exhibition featuring the work of Rod Mireau, a Saskatchewan-born artist who currently resides in Peterborough. Mireau’s work is the construction of wood and metal sculptures. According to the AGP website, he “explores the edges between the industrial and the natural,” finding inspiration from seeds to rebar. Mireau’s work is held in collections across Canada and the USA, Germany, and United Arab Emirates. This is the first major solo exhibition of his work.
Ivan Eyre is also a Saskatchewan-born artist who taught painting and drawing at the University of Manitoba from 1960-1993. He creates paintings and sculptures which are spatially complex, and is perhaps best known for his prairie landscapes. The current exhibition displaying Eyre’s work is titled Peeling and features a number of works which belong to the AGP Permanent Collection.
The final exhibition this summer is Selections: Kawartha Autumn Summer Tour, and features the work of over 30 artists from Peterborough and County. It is a preview of the art that can be explored during the annual juried tour in September, where artists generously invite the public inside their studios to share their processes and work.
The current exhibitions will be on display until October. The AGP is located at 250 Crescent St. next to Del Crary Park. For more information, please call 705-7439179 or visit www.agp.on.ca
