First Aid courses available in August

St. John Ambulance has a limited number of first aid classes in August for those who want to brush up on their training or learn first aid for the first time.

Also, since last month’s column outlining classes at Applewood Manor, SJA has scheduled sessions at the Peterborou­gh Lions centre. Here’s a look at the lineup for what remains in July as well as August classes.

Standard First Aid: The standard first aid course is provides 13 hours of comprehens­ive first aid training, including CPR for adults and automated external defibrilla­tion (AED).

Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for July 25 to Jul. 26; Aug. 1 to Aug. 2; Aug. 8 to Aug. 9 and Aug. 15 to Aug. 16 at the Lions Centre.

Emergency First Aid: The emergency first aid course provides 6.5 hours of basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures.

Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen July 25; Aug. 1; Aug. 5 and Aug. 15 at the Lions centre.

Standard First Aid renewal: This one-day renewal course is for people who need to renew their St. John Ambulance Level A or C- AED certificat­es in standard first aid. There is a session set for Jul. 24 from 8:30 AM – to 5 PM at the Lions club.

Applewood courses

Standard First Aid: This is a comprehens­ive two day course with first aid training and CPR for workplaces or personal interest.

The interactiv­e program includes CPR training for adults, infants and children, two person CPR as well as automated external defibrilla­tion (AED).

Class dates for standard first aid are July 28 to July 29. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Emergency First Aid: The emergency first aid course provides more than six hours of basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures

Emergency first aid is also planned for weekends at Applewood. Classes are scheduled for July 28 and Aug. 11.

You can choose either level A or level C CPR. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Basic Rescuer Renewal: This course provides updates for those who need to renew their basic rescuer certificat­e. The refresher rovides comprehens­ive CPR training for general public interest or workplaces.

Learn how to be a first aid provider and gain the skills to provide help with a cardiac emergency, choking or stroke for adults, infants or children. There is also training in two- person CPR.

There is one evening class next month, set for July 31 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Applewood.

All first aid courses come with a certificat­e valid for three years. For more or to register, contact SJA at 705-745-0331.
