Jr. Varsity Wolverines open playoffs against Thunder on Saturday

Sr. Varsity, Bantam Wolverines end season with losses

The Peterborou­gh Wolverines completed the 2018 Ontario Football Conference regular season on Saturday when they hosted a triple header at the Thomas A. Stewart Field.

For the Bantams and Sr. Varsity squads, it was the end of their seasons while the Jr. Varsity team will advance to the first round of the playoffs.

The Bantams lost to the undefeated Brampton Bulldogs 43-7 and end with a 3-5 record. Scoring for the Wolverines were Sam LeVasseur with a touchdown and Ryan Forsythe with a successful convert kick.

The Sr. Varsity Wolverines lost 14-1 to the Sudbury Gladiators and ended their season with a 1-7 record. Scoring the single point was Zachary AuCoin. This was the final game for head coach John Parkes as he moves on to the university level as an assistant coach with the McMaster University football program.

The Jr. Varsity Wolverines shut out the Sudbury Gladiators 49-0 to end the regular season with a 7-1 record and have secured the No. 2 seed position as they go into the first round of the playoffs.

They have won seven straight games and will host the third seed, the Scarboroug­h Thunder (6-2), who they lost to in the opening game of the season.

The Wolverines host the Thunder on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the TASSS Field on Armour Rd.

The undefeated No. 1 seed Etobicoke Eagles (8-0) will host the No. 4 seed , the Oshawa Hawkeyes (6-2) and the winners from the two games will meet on the Aug. 4 weekend to battle for the Ramsay Conference (East) Championsh­ip and the opportunit­y to face the Dittmer Conference (West) Champions on Aug. 11 at the OFC Champ Day at the Wayne Gretzky Complex in Brantford.

The Jr. Varsity Wolverines were able to control the game from the beginning building a 14-0 lead after the first quarter and increasing the lead to 28-0 at the half. The Wolverines led 49-0 going into the fourth quarter and enjoyed the final 49-0 victory.

The Wolverines scoring was led by Mack McFarlane with three touchdowns and single touchdowns by Thomas Switzer, George Kendall, Brett Bjorgan and Isaac Clark. Spenser Vesnaver was successful on all seven convert kicks.
