The Peterborough Exhibition has tapped into the 21st century.

For the first time in its history, the Ex will have an app.

It’ll inform visitors of what’s happening on the grounds, where events are located and give livestock competition results.

“It brings us back into 2018,” said Ryan Moore, Peterborough Agricultural Society president.

The Ag Society has hosted the Ex for

173 years. It’s one of Canada’s longest running exhibitions.

Details of 2018 Peterborough Ex were announced at PTBO Escape in Lansdowne Place Thursday.

PTBO Escape is another new element that’s been added to the Ex this year.

Throughout the exhibition’s four days, visitors can take part in daily challenges around the grounds that’ll have them searching for clues and solving puzzles.

When all the day’s challenges are done, participants enter a ballot with the answers into a draw to win daily prizes.

The Preddy family opened Escape Maze on their farm in Stewart Hall about five years ago. Its success led the Preddys to open PTBO Escape in the mall in April.

The Peterborough Ex runs at Morrow Park from Aug. 9 to 12.

Many Ex favourites are back this year, including the President’s Choice SuperDogs, Green Tractor equipment displays, KenJen Petting Zoo, a car show, midway, and steer auction.

And of course, agricultural events run throughout the weekend, too.

Beef shows, dairy shows, and poultry shows as well as heavy and light horse shows and homecraft displays keep the Ex connected to its roots.

The Dodge Ram Rodeo returns to the Ex on Aug. 10, followed by a dance party in the beer tent from 8 to 11 p.m.

Then on Saturday, Ontario Xtreme Cowbow is back. The competition puts both horse and rider to the test through a series of trail and farm-based obstacles.

Live music is happening Saturday when Highway Sunrise, Rye Street and Hicktown all perform.

Admission passes for all four days are $10 per person and kids under 5 are free.
