Local game lands on XBox, PlayStation
A video game developed by a local company is now available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Canuck Play, based in Peterborough, launched Maximum Football 2018 on Tuesday. The game allows players to choose Canadian football, American football or college foortball, with the ability to run practices, and play full seasons while customizing players and teams.
Xbox One and PS4 have significant market shares in North America, with PS4 at 60 per cent market share and Xbox One at 29 per cent as of January, according to a release.
Company president David A. Winter and vice-president Sheryl Loucks are clients of the Innovation Cluster. He has 20 years of game design experience, while she is experienced in publishing, administration and journalism. Both enjoy sharing Canadian stories, the release states. Last year, the company launched Canadian Football 2017 for Xbox One and PC; the game is also available via the online service Steam.
“We are passionate about creating games through Canadian culture and want our players to have a voice in what they’d like to experience in the games we create,” stated Winter, saying updates will be added to the game, some with player input.
Canuck Play has customers in 12 countries and a busy fanbase.
“Canuck Play’s success shows Peterborough is the place to be as a tech company,” states Michael Skinner, president and CEO of the Innovation Cluster, in a release. “Their certification for PS4 and Xbox One is an incredible milestone for a boutique game development agency.”
