Who will be the next Norwood Fair ambassador?

On Aug. 12 the Norwood Fair will host the annual Ambassador Competitio­n to choose the 20182019 Fair Ambassador and representa­tive for the fair's 150th year.

This year four talented young ladies will vie for the coveted crown: Sarah Wilson, who is proudly sponsored by the Norwood Lions Club, Hailey Baptie who is proudly sponsored by Maple View Retirement Residence, Abby Hughes who is proudly sponsored by J. J. Stewart Motors, and Abi Begg who is proudly sponsored by Centennial Pharmacy.

The contestant­s will each complete an interview with an independen­t panel of three judges, prepare and deliver a speech about the fair plus answer an impromptu question.

The doors open at 1 p.m. to the Millennium Room in the AsphodelNo­rwood Community Centre. (88 Alma St.) The competitio­n begins at 2 p.m. (Doors are locked at the start of the competitio­n.) Admission is free and all are welcome to come and show their support for these four exceptiona­l ladies.

Local service clubs

The Norwood Lions Club and the Norwood Lioness Club both celebrated the end of successful years in June. Traditiona­lly the clubs mark the end of their year with special festivitie­s at their final meeting before taking a break for the summer months. These festivitie­s usually always involve plenty of delicious food followed by the induction of the new executive for the new fiscal year ahead.

The Lions hosted their meeting on the first Thursday in June where members enjoyed a tasty steak supper expertly cooked by Bruce Brett. Following the meal the club welcomed members of the Hospice Committee and announced their support of the new Norwood Hospice Project by committing themselves to a $50,000 contributi­on. A new member was also initiated into the club followed by the installati­on of the new officers. The new president was then put immediatel­y to work chairing his first meeting with reports on the clubs various projects.

The Lions' new executive includes President Peter Oord, Vice-President Terry Low, Don Bryans, Todd McRobbie, Doug Pearcy, Jack Begg, Barry Walsh, Jack Deen, Vern Stockdale, Brian Radnor, Harold Tibbits, Hugh Chaplin, Rob Irvine, Bob Brickell, Bruce Brett, Barry Walsh, Barry Patterson and Earl Oliver.

The Norwood Lioness also celebrated their year-end with a tasty meal catered by Bruce Brett’s Trillium Catering. After a meal of delicious roasted pork tenderloin and apricot sauce the new executive was inducted and immediatel­y set about their work with their first meeting. This year’s executive includes President Christine Orton, Vice-President Julia Barber, Julie McLean, Jill Cassibo, Marg Clarke, Madeline Stewart, Carolyn Towns, Kathy Tibbits, Marlene Chaplin and Pat Corby.

NDHS Reunion

Nearly 66 years ago on October 29, 1952 the present day Norwood District High School officially opened its doors; a reunion for all staff and students of NDHS will be held this Saturday from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Norwood Curling Club. Tickets are $20 each or 2 for $30 and are available at the door or in advance from Lori McGee 705-957-4029.
