Unique opportunity to camp alongside the Lift Lock on Aug. 11
Parks Canada is offering a Learn to Camp program at the Peterborough Lift Lock on Aug. 11.
The event is aimed at people with little camping experience and will offer workshops to teach the basics of camping such as how to pitch a tent or cook in the outdoors.
Participants will then get to camp alongside the Peterborough Lift Lock.
The event begins at noon on Aug. 11 and continues until the next morning.
Day activities include: PaddleSmart, how to pitch a tent, camping games and padding through the Lift Lock.
Night activities include: a campfire with Camp Kawartha and Curve Lake First Nations experts, learning to cook on a fire and toasting marshmallows on an open fire.
The Parka mascot will also pay a visit prior to dinner time.
Included with the event fee are: tent and sleeping pads, dinner on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday and all workshops and activities. To register call 1-844-3652646 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. on weekdays. Participants need to bring: sleeping bags for each person, a pillow, a flashlight, suitable clothing for the outdoors, pyjamas, toys and books for any kids, bottles and diapers for any babies, bug spray, sunscreen, water bottles, one cup/one bowl/ one plate/one fork/one spoon/one knife per person, a hat, personal toiletries and medications, a camera and a health card.
