Lindsay classic cars find a new home

- MARY RILEY KAWARTHA LAKES THIS WEEK

The organizer of the Lindsay A&W Cruisers classic car club summer cruise nights is happy to announce the club has found a new venue in the Canadian Tire parking lot.

The club previously met every Wednesday night in the summer for the past 12 years in the parking lot of the Lindsay Plaza on Kent Street West to show off their cars and raise money for multiple sclerosis.

The group parked the vehicles in a section of the lot near the entrance road near the A&W restaurant, which along with other businesses in the plaza has always supported them.

Last month, organizer Butch Lewis said security personnel for the plaza owners, Valiant Rental Properties Limited (who have owned it for the last six years), informed the group they were no longer allowed to hold the cruise nights on the property.

Lewis said after the group was barred from holding the event on the property, he immediately began to make other arrangements for a new locale, "but I had to finalize it before making any announcement."

He said thanks to John Fox, general manager of the Canadian Tire property on Kent Street, the cruise nights will now be held in a section of the store's parking lot.

Fox said Lewis is "a longtime customer" of Canadian Tire, as are many of the club members, and finding a space for the cruise nights in his parking lot "gave us an opportunity to help out.

"We compressed the Garden Centre to make room for them, "he said. "They hold the show on Wednesday nights, so that makes it easier for us."

Lewis is grateful to everyone who supports the charity, and invites everyone to come to the cruise nights. They are held Wednesday nights from 5 p.m. until dusk and will run until the end of September, weather permitting.
