Homicide in Trent River under investigation
TRENT RIVER — Northumberland OPP are investigating after a 43-year-old Trent Hills man was killed in a shooting early Saturday morning in Trent River, about 40 kilometres east of Peterborough.
OPP officers and paramedics were called to a property on Church St. between Trent River and Daley roads in Trent River, south of Havelock, around 4:15 a.m. Saturday.
The man was found suffering from trauma and was taken by paramedics to Campbellford Memorial Hospital, where he died of his injuries, according to Northumberland County OPP media relations officer Const. Kimberly Johnston.
He was later identified by police as Scott MacDonald, 43, of Trent Hills.
Two people were observed leaving the scene, Johnston stated.
An area was cordoned off by police tape later Saturday and armed emergency response team officers with police dogs combed the area.
Police do not believe there is any threat to public safety as a result of the killing, Johnston stated.
Det. Insp. Gerard Scherer of the OPP criminal investigation branch is leading the investigation
being conducted by the Northumberland OPP major crime unit, the OPP Central Region forensic identification unit, the OPP emergency response team and the OPP canine unit.
