Class offers tips on preserving your harvest

Nourish presents Sow, Grow and Stow workshops

It’s harvest time and Nourish presents Sow, Grow and Stow canning workshops. This is an opportunit­y to learn how to safely can and preserve seasonal produce. Participan­ts will work through a different recipe each week putting up fresh produce purchased from local growers at the Peterborou­gh Downtown Farmer’s Market.

Workshop Series 1 runs Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and is already underway. This Thursday the workshop focuses on Tomatoes, Tomatoes, Tomatoes and Aug. 30 features The Pressure is on! Basic Pressure Canning Techniques. Workshop Series 2 takes place Thursdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and begins September 13 with a workshop on Relishes. Sept. 20 is Apples and Pear Oh My! and Sept. 27 is a repeat of the workshop Pressure is on! Basic Pressure Canning Techniques.

All workshops are held in Myrtle’s Kitchen, located on the second floor of Peterborou­gh Public Health, 185 King St. Workshops are free, but registrati­on is required. Please note that workshop spaces are reserved for those who have not yet taken a Nourish canning workshop. Peterborou­gh Musicfest

The last two concerts in the Peterborou­gh Musicfest 2018 line-up take place this week. Canadian folk and soul singersong­writer Bobby Bazini takes the stage on Wednesday. Saturday is Classic Albums Live: Creedence Clearwater Revival, Chronicle Vol. 1, a classic rock tribute. Both concerts begin at 8 p.m. in Del Crary Park; admission is free. Summer Family Film

Ben Van Veen Century 21 presents a free, outdoor screening of the movie Jumanji, this Friday at 8 p.m. in Millennium Park. This is the final film in the 2018 Summer Family Film Series. Save the Date: Artsweek

Artsweek, Peterborou­gh’s 10-day festival of the arts, is just around the corner running September 21 to 30. This year, more than 100 artists and 40 events will be showcased. The festival includes music, poetry, dance, theatre, singers, clowns, flying canoes, wailing whales, public acts of print making, giant films, neighbourh­ood concerts, aerial artists and much more.

Events will be taking place at the Art Gallery of Peterborou­gh, Market Hall, the Peterborou­gh Public Library, Peterborou­gh Square and other locations throughout the city.

Volunteers are needed for the festival. This is an opportunit­y to work with local artists and be a part of the arts community.
