Currier, Gilray win MLL title with Denver Outlaws

Peterborou­gh Century 21 Lakers’ Zach Currier and Matt Gilray captured the Major League Lacrosse pro field lacrosse championsh­ip with the Denver Outlaws on Saturday.

The Outlaws beat the Dallas Rattlers 16-12 in the championsh­ip game in Charleston, S.C.

Lakers alumnus John Grant Jr. is the Outlaws offensive coach. It was Denver’s third straight trip to the MLL final and third championsh­ip win overall.

Currier had two goals and two assists in the championsh­ip game. He had 14 goals and 11 assists in eight regular season games. Gilray had one goal in five regular season games. He was scoreless in the final.

Shawn Evans and Cam Milligan also played three games each for Denver this season but did not finish the year with the team. Evans had five goals and six assists while Milligan had four goals and three assists.

MSL final to be streamed

The Lakers and Rock announced on Tuesday all games in the MSL final will be streamed pay-per-view by Lacrosse-TV.

The cost is $10 per game and available at lacrosse-tv.com.

WLA final

A score from Game 3 of the Western Lacrosse Associatio­n final was not available at press time.

Roster notes

Zach Currier missed Game 1 to work commitment­s and Evan Kirk is expected back for Game 2 from his honeymoon in Jamaica. Eric Shewell (upper body) is improving and is now considered day-to-day, said Lakers GM Paul Day. He said Jordan Stouros, who had broken his finger in three places, could be available at some point in the final, said Day.

Oakville was missing some big names as Wes Berg, Ryan Benesch, Brad Kri and Matt Vangalen were all absent from Game 1.
