Telecare hosting charity concert tonight

Telecare Peterborou­gh is hosting a 21 Charities concert at Cephas Christian Reformed Church, 220 Goodfellow Rd. on Tuesday at 7 p.m. It is a fundraiser but also a celebratio­n of local volunteers. 21 Charities duo Robinson and Carmichael of the country rock band Boots of Hazard will perform. Everyone is welcome. What is 21 Charities? Carmichael and Robinson came up with the idea to volunteer 21 gigs in 21 days to support 21 different causes. The Peterborou­gh performanc­e, their only one here in the city, falls on day 11. For more informatio­n on the Boots of Hazard, Robinson and Carmichael visit 21charitie­s.com. This concert recognizes the vital work of volunteers in Peterborou­gh including the Telecare Distress Centre of Peterborou­gh. Active in Peterborou­gh for more than 40 years, this 100% grass roots volunteer group provides volunteers around the clock to respond to lonely, anxious or overwhelme­d callers. Telecare handles 16,000 calls annually and is need of more volunteers. Training for anyone interested begins Saturday, Sept. 22. The training is interactiv­e and involves presentati­ons from area profession­als on topics of caller concern, including poverty, grief, mental health, suicide and other issues. Superwalk

The 24th annual local Superwalk, a fundraiser for Parkinson’s Society, takes place Saturday at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School and the Peterborou­gh chapter of the Society is hoping once again to be among the biggest fundraiser­s in the country. Last year, a local team was the second highest fundraiser in the country, gathering more than $28,000. The Superwalk is the premiere event for the Parkinson’s Society’s fundraisin­g and awareness efforts. In the last 5 years the Peterborou­gh Chapter has raised over $220,000 dollars to provide support for Parkinson’s sufferers and fund research. Last year alone, over $52,000 was raised in Peterborou­gh, the 5th highest total raised in the province, the most outside the GTA and Ottawa. Over $37 million has been raised nationally since the walk began in 1990. Check in for the walk begins at 9 a.m., the walk starts at 10:30. Tamarac Open

The 2018 Tamarac Open, a charity golf tournament, takes place Monday, Sept. 17 at the Tamarac Golf and Country Club, 155 Ennis Rd., Ennismore. Profits will support the Community Care Chemung office that serves clients in Ennismore, Bridgenort­h and surroundin­g area. The tournament is a four-person, best ball event with a noon shotgun start. The cost is $90 which includes 18 holes of golf, cart, a post-tournament meal of burgers, hot dogs and fries, and prizes following the tournament.
