- MIKE DAVIES Examiner Sports Director mike.davies@peterboroughdaily.com

Peterborough Century 21 Lakers forward Kyle Buchanan was named the Johnny (Shooter) Davis Trophy winner as most valuable player of the Major Series Lacrosse final.

Buchanan had 12 goals and 30 assists for 42 points in 13 playoff games. He was also the regular season scoring champion.

“It’s a pretty humbling experience,” Buchanan said.

“There are a lot of guys in our dressing room who probably deserved it. Our goalies stepped up when we need them to. Shawnee (Shawn Evans) stepped up tonight but it’s a culmination of our entire offence working together and trying to be the energy guy that I am.”

MANN CUP SCHEDULE

The Mann Cup between the Lakers and WLA champion Maple Ridge Burrards will kick off with Game 1 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Friday night with Game 2 on Saturday. Sunday is a day off with Games 3 and 4 on Monday, Sept. 10 and Sept. 11.

If necessary, Game 5 is on Sept. 12, Game 6 on Sept. 14 and Game 7 on Sept. 15. Game times are to be confirmed, said Lakers GM Paul Day.

Ticket details are to be announced.

Milligan joins Knighthawks

Peterborough’s Cam Milligan has signed a one-year contract with the NLL’s Rochester Knighthawks.

“Growing up, being a guy from Peterborough, I idolized guys like John Grant Jr. and the Evans (brothers). They were Knighthawks and had great careers there, so I have been a Knighthawks fan since I was a kid,” stated Milligan, in a Knighthawks press release.

“I am very excited to be a part of this organization.”

He is coming off an impressive rookie season with the Whitby Steelhawks of the Arena Lacrosse League (ALL).

Milligan, who was the first overall pick in the 2017 ALL Draft, finished second in the league in points (79) and assists (49) and fifth in goals (30). He chipped in nine points in one playoff game as the Steelhawks captured the 2018 ALL Championship.

What’s that smell?
