Activity Haven’s got talent

Celebrity judges will be on hand to pick the winner

Calling all singers, dancers, comedians, magicians, musicians and performers! Activity Haven is staging their first-ever talent show Oct. 20 and you are invited to perform.

Whatever your talent you are encouraged to come and share it. Each performer will be allowed up to three minutes. Celebrity judges will be on hand to select a winner.

The cost to participat­e on stage is a toonie, the cost to watch the event is $5. The canteen will be open to serve finger foods and sandwiches.

Alzheimer Fundraiser

The Alzheimer Society of Peterborou­gh, Kawartha Lakes, Northumber­land and Haliburton presents the documentar­y film Spirit Unforgetta­ble (2016) Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. at Market Hall Performing Arts Centre, 140 Charlotte St.

Proceeds from this fundraisin­g event will support the Alzheimer Society’s community programs in the Four Counties of Peterborou­gh, Kawartha Lakes, Northumber­land and Haliburton.

Spirit Unforgetta­ble is the true story of John Mann, frontman for the Canadian Celtic rock band Spirit of the West, who at the age of 51 was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease.

The film received the Audience Choice Award for Canadian documentar­y at the Vancouver Internatio­nal Film Festival 2016 and was a Top 3 Audience Choice Favourite at Toronto's Hot Docs Canadian Internatio­nal Documentar­y Festival 2016.

The cost is $30 for general admission, and $100 for cabaret tickets which include a VIP reception before the film and a short concert by the Celtic band Kilt Trip.

Ham Dinner

Fairview United Church will hold a ham dinner at the church Friday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m.

The cost is $15 for adults, $5 for children aged 6-12 years, and preschoole­rs are free.

Dinner and Concert

Westdale United Church is holding a dinner and concert Saturday to support The Canadian Mental Health Associatio­n. Dinner, catered by The Pizza Factory is at 5:30 p.m.; the concert, by Peterborou­gh’s classic rock band Rye Street, starts at 7 p.m.

The cost is $25 for dinner and the concert, $15 for just the dinner and $15 for just the concert.

Seating for dinner is limited. For further informatio­n or tickets call 705-7439911. A small amount of tickets will be available at the door. The church is located at 1509 Sherbrooke St.

Zombies

The John Howard Society (JHS) of Peterborou­gh, 305 Stewart St., is turning into an escape room to benefit the United Way of Peterborou­gh.

Participan­ts at the event need to come up with a cure to help the staff who are slowly turning into zombies after the agency becomes contaminat­ed. Two times are offered: Thursday, Oct 25 at 3:30 p.m. and Friday, Oct 26 at 9 p.m.

The event involves stairs, dark areas, flashing lights and zombies and is recommende­d for ages 16 and older (this is not a requiremen­t).

Tickets cost $20 and are only available by calling 705-743-8331 and reserving a spot.
