A pair of former Peterborough Petes are the honorary co-chairmen for the 10th annual Pink in the Rink.

Cameron Mann and Steve Larmer were announced as the fundraiser’s chairmen at the local Canadian Cancer Society office Wednesday.

“It’s a great honour for me to be involved in this charity this year. I look forward to trying to help in any way that I can,” said Larmer.

The Peterborough native played with the Petes during the 1977-78 season before moving on to the Niagara Falls Flyers. He was drafted to the Chicago Blackhawks in 1980, playing with them until 1993.

Larmer spent his last two seasons playing for the New York Rangers, winning the Stanley Cup in 1994.

Mann, on the other hand, played with the Petes from 1993 until 1997. He went on to play professional hockey for 13 years in the United States, Germany, Finland and England.

He now lives in Peterborough with his wife Shauna and three daughters and is a coach for the Peterborough Ice Kats. Mann’s mother is a cancer survivor.

Pink in the Rink raises money for women’s cancer research.

The Petes dedicate a game to the cause and wear special pink jerseys for the game. The sweaters bare the names of those who’re fighting cancer and those who’ve lost their fight.

At the end of the night, the jerseys are auctioned off live at the rink.

There’s also a silent auction in the lobby, a bucket pass, and chuck-a-ball.

“People are incredibly generous that night,” said Alison Payne, senior manager of the CCS’s Peterborough and Durham community office.

Cancer survivors and their families are also at the game, which really brings it home, Payne said.

Pink in the Rink is Feb. 2 at the Memorial Centre. The Petes will play the Oshawa Generals.

The goal for 2019 is $65,000. Earlier this year, $88,000 was raised when the late Gary Dalliday and his son Pete were cochairmen.

Tickets to the game are $20, with $7 going to Pink in the Rink. They’re available at the CCS office on The Kingsway.
