Breast cancer awareness at mall
Health care professionals will join local dragon boat team at Lansdowne Place on Saturday
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and so the local dragon boat team Survivors Abreast has organized an information fair.
On Saturday, visitors are welcome to attend the event, which will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Landsowne Place’s Centre Court.
The dragon boat team has invited local health-care professionals to set up displays with staff to give the public information about breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery.
Organizations taking part include the Breast Assessment Centre, Peterborough Regional Health Centre, Hospice Peterborough, Central East Community Care Access Centre, My Left Breast, Survivors Abreast Dragon Boat Team, Crystal Lyons RMT lymphatic drainage specialist, Kyla Gutsche, cosmetic transformations and face painting by Christy Smith of FACE IT... If I Paint it, They Will Come!
Staff from all organizations will be on hand to answer any questions and give as much assistance as possible.
Bridget Leslie, the owner of My Left Breast, is the chairwoman of the event’s organization committee.
“People who are impacted by breast cancer come into my store every day and I hear their stories,” Leslie stated.
“I know firsthand from these conversations and from my own diagnosis of breast cancer that awareness and early detection are really important. They are the best tools we have.”
The public will also be able to enjoy other attractions including face painting, pink ribbon tattoos, videos related to breast cancer to watch and free pink carnations as symbols of breast cancer.
Donations of gently used bras for the Bras Around The Building event, happening on Oct. 26, will also be welcomed.
