Bobby Allan to speak at Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame event
Peterborough and Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Famer Bobby Allan will be one of two guest speakers at the Canadian Lacrosse Foundation’s inaugural Lacrosse Talks at the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame in St. Catharines on Oct. 27.
The format will see Allan interviewed by fellow Hall of Famer and Examiner columnist Don Barrie. The discussion will be filmed for a webcast to be streamed starting Nov. 1.
Allan was a star player, coach, builder of the game and 1974 Canadian Lacrosse
Hall of Fame
Inductee. He will talk about his involvement from the 1950s until now with stories about Mann Cups, World Championships and pro leagues.
In 2017 he was also inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame.
Lacrosse historian and author Prof. Donald Fisher from Niagara County Community College will talk about the traditional game prior to the 1860s and the modern game in the 1860s, 1930s, 1960s and now. Fisher is the author of the historical tome Lacrosse — A History of the Game.
“The Canadian Lacrosse Foundation is pleased to work closely with the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame to help with the Lacrosse Talks project,” stated CLF chairman Jim Burke.
“We think that holding these talks and videotaping them will provide interested lacrosse fans and the public with insight into the game of lacrosse as it has been played up to this date. As the years go by, new individuals, participants and fans, will be able to review this material in a video format and the stories will be around for generations to come.”
“The Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame is very excited to host this event during its 20th year of operation,” stated OLHoF representative Paul Gilkinson stated. The session helps continue the efforts of the Hall of Fame to recognize and celebrate the historical, cultural and athletic contributions within the Ontario lacrosse community.
While at the event, attendees are encouraged to visit the Hall to see three new exhibits recognizing the Mann Cup Peterborough Timbermen, the Minto Cup Oshawa Green Gaels and the Founders Cup Six Nations Rebels championship teams.
Limited seating is available to attend Lacrosse Talks.
The hall is located at the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre at Lock 3 of the Welland Canal on the Welland Canals Parkway.
