Church serving up beef dinner to help children in Honduras

Grace United Church, 581 Howden St., is holding a fundraisin­g roast beef dinner and silent auction Saturday, Oct. 20 with one sitting at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds go to support the church’s 2018 Honduras Build trip taking place in November

The menu includes appetizers, roast beef with Yorkshire pudding and gravy, vegetables, salad, homemade pie, and punch. There will also be a great selection of items to bid on in the silent auction.

The Honduras Build trip involves a group of people from the church and the community who will travel to Nuevo Paraiso to build new washroom facilities at the elementary school. For over 10 years a group from the church, under the guidance of Peterborou­gh’s Friends of Honduran Children, has travelled to Honduras, building homes and schools and taking school supplies to many rural mountain schools. Tickets cost $20 and are available at the church office from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. For further informatio­n call the office at 705-742-5846.

A Capella

Tickets are now available for Aces of Harmony’s annual fundraisin­g concert. Do You Hear the People Sing, an afternoon of a Capella takes place at Cephas Church, 220 Goodfellow Rd. Saturday, Oct. 27 at 2 p.m. The Aces will perform along with special guests, the award winning Harbourtow­n Sounds from Hamilton, who are also the largest male barbershop chorus in the country. Some of the proceeds will go to an a Capella singing project for youth.

CMHA Fundraiser

Enjoy a musical evening and support mental health services in our community. The 2nd annual Music for Mental Health fundraiser takes place Friday at 8 p.m. (doors open at 7:30 p.m.) at The Mount Community Centre, 1545 Monaghan Rd. Proceeds support the Canadian Mental Health Associatio­n (CMHA).

Featured performers include Kerry Jayne, Brit Hall, Cee Terry, Paper Shakers, Stephen Stamp, Hillary Dumoulin and Guests.

Ham Supper

Northminst­er United Church, 300 Sunset Blvd., is holding a ham supper Thursday Oct. 25 with sittings at 4:45 and 6 p.m. The cost is $15 for adults and $6 for children aged 6-12. Call 705-748-4881 to reserve your spot. The facility is wheelchair accessible.

Show and Dance

Get your tickets now! The Peterborou­gh Lioness Club is holding a fundraisin­g Old Time Country Show & Dance Sunday, Nov. 18 from 1 until 5 p.m. at the Peterborou­gh Naval Club, 24 Whitlaw St. Proceeds go towards community projects and the Christmas Hamper Fund.

“Come out, enjoy a fun afternoon, while kicking up your heels to this annual fundraiser hosted by the Peterborou­gh Lioness Club,” says Lioness Gloria Wray.

The event will feature Just Plain Country with the Don Tandy Band, the ‘Bumper Jack man’ Roy Hastings, entertaine­rs Art LaJambe, Dave Chown, Sheila Northey and Ray Jones. Sandwiches and light refreshmen­ts will be sold at the bar.
