Book of Remembrance replica on display
Remembrance Day display at City Hall
The lobby at City Hall has a new display for Remembrance Day.
The display includes the Book of Remembrance, a replica of the book listing the names of the 842 men and women from both Peterborough city and county killed in action in the First
World War, the Second World War and the Korean War.
The original Book of Remembrance had been on display in the lobby of City Hall since its dedication in 1962, according to a press release from the city, but was removed for conservation in 2011.
The original will be preserved for future generations as part of the permanent collection of the Peterborough Museum and Archives.
People can look through the pages of the replica that’s at City Hall, the release states.
Meanwhile the Scroll of Remembrance is also part of the display.
The large framed scroll commemorates all those from the Peterborough area who lost their lives while serving on active duty in the Canadian Armed Forces since the Korean War (1950-1953).
The scroll was made by nationally-recognized calligrapher Mihail Murgoci. It is installed on the wall above the Book of Remembrance.
City Hall is open on weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but will be closed in observance of Remembrance Day on Nov. 12.
A digital version of the Book of Remembrance can also be viewed on the Peterborough Museum and Archives website at www.peterboroughmuseumandarchives.ca
