Thank you to the voters of Otonabee Ward
As a candidate in the recent municipal election, I believe that one of the greatest democratic privileges elections bestow is that of knocking on doors. However, it is a bit nerve-wracking showing up unannounced at someone’s home. Condominiums and apartment buildings are even more uncertain territory as security and privacy barriers are designed to keep politicking interlopers out, despite the firmly held belief that if you want to be elected, you had better show up at the door!
Fortunately, the worry was unnecessary as the citizens of Otonabee Ward were gracious and welcoming even when we caught them eating, on the phone, or just getting out of the shower.
Clearly informed on the issues, the voters of Otonabee Ward engaged over the fence, out the window, on lawns, porches and couches, dressed for work or in housecoat or bath towel! There were kind offers of water, shelter from storms, and invitations to come in to cool off or warm-up as the weather dictated. One potbellied pig, every breed of dog and colour of cat imaginable listened in to conversations about the current state, and future of Peterborough. We couldn’t have felt more at home.
Thus, on behalf of myself and my campaign team, I would like to thank everyone in Otonabee Ward for opening their doors, and for sharing their thoughts and concerns with us.
Together we have started the process of building a relationship that will in turn help to build this community.
Let’s keep the conversation going! Kim Zippel, councillor-elect, Otonabee Ward 1
