Local First Aid training available

St. John Ambulance has scheduled several first aid courses for December, taking place at the Peterborou­gh Lions community centre, 347 Burnham Street.

Pick your training course from these options.

Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for Dec. 5 to Dec. 6; Dec. 12 to Dec. 13; Dec. 18 to Dec. 19, all at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training and includes training for adult, child and infant CPR This class has the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost is $159 for level A and $179 for level C.

Emergency First Aid: The emergency first aid course provides 6.5 hours of basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures.

Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen Dec. 5; Dec. 12 and Dec. 18 all at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $110 for level A or

$120 for level C.

Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you can’t attend day courses, SJA also offers weekend and evening sessions at their facility on the lower level of Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Weekend class dates for standard first aid are: Dec. 1 to Dec. 2; Dec. 8 to Dec. 9 and Dec. 15 to Dec. 16 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

There are six spots available in each course.

Weekend courses in emergency first aid are slated for Dec. 1; Dec. 8 and Dec. 15 at Applewood.

If you have a current certificat­e for standard first aid and need to renew your training, there is a renewal course in standard first aid slated for Dec. 17 at the Lions centre. Cost is $120 and extends your certificat­e by three years.

Babysittin­g

Just a reminder that SJA still has openings in the babysittin­g course running Nov. 23, a P.A. day. It runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Lions Centre.

The workshop is for youths 11 to 15 years old and develops skills in safety rules, responding to emergencie­s and leadership.

Students learn how to care for infants and toddlers; sick or injured children and handling emergencie­s. Cost is $69 and includes a workbook.

Public lecture

The Peterborou­gh Historical Society’s monthly meeting is slated for Nov. 20, 7:30 p.m. at the Peterborou­gh Lions community centre, 347 Burnham St.

Guest speaker will be local historian Don Willcock, who will talk about Peterborou­gh’s Citizens’ War Memorial, using archival materials and images. All are welcome.
