Work begins on new Flying Colours hangar at airport
A $25-million expansion has begun at Flying Colours at the Peterborough Airport.
Shovels recently went into the ground to begin construction on a new building that will house a dedicated, climatecontrolled paint shop, spacious hangar large enough to hold up to A220-size aircraft, as well as offices, customer meeting rooms, interior workshops and a boardroom.
The aviation business, located at the city-owned airport in Cavan Monaghan Township, is spending $25 million on the expansion, adding an additional 100,000 square feet to its existing footprint.
“Our business has grown significantly over the last 12 months and we were running out of space to accommodate all our clients’ requests. Once the building is complete we will be using it to provide additional capacity for completions, refurbishment and heavy maintenance work scopes on large jet airframes,” stated John Gillespie, president and CEO of Flying Colours Corp.
The project will be Flying Colours’ largest hangar to date. It’s being constructed by Vicano Construction Ltd.
This project marks the beginning of the fourth phase of expansion plans at Flying Colours.
At the company’s Chesterfield, St. Louis, facility a fifth hangar, a leased building, is undergoing preparations to open for business in January, adding a further 40,000 square feet to the facility.
More than 100 team members are being recruited across both sites to bolster the increased demand. The company is in need of employees for maintenance, interiors and paint.
