’Twas the night before Christmas

Several Northcrest Ward churches are holding special services for Christmas.

St. Stephen’s Presbyteri­an Church will hold a family Christmas Eve service Dec. 24 with carol singing and puppets. Also, on Wed. Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. they will have a Longest Night service for those who find Christmas a difficult time. The church is located at 1140 St. Pauls St., at the corner of Hilliard Street.

Edmison Height Baptist Church, 160 Marina Blvd., will hold a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ and to enjoy familiar carols along with the choir’s pieces What a Glorious Night and Emmanuel (God with Us).

Christ Lutheran Church, 463 Highland Rd., will hold two Christmas Eve services at 4 and 7 p.m. Everyone, including children, are always welcome.

Northminst­er United Church will hold a family Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. with Christmas carols and story, followed by a service at 9 p.m. with Christmas music, message, carols, candles and communion.

Fairview United Church will hold a Christmas Eve Service at 7 p.m. The church is located at 724 Center Line, just north of the Zoo traffic lights.

Beginner knitting

Want to learn how to knit? The Seasoned Spoon Café at Trent University is holding a Beginner Knitting Workshop on Jan. 21 from 5 until 8 p.m. with Christina Pridie, owner, instructor, and designer at the Peterborou­gh Yarn Shop.

During this hands-on lesson, participan­ts will learn how to do long tail cast on, knit, fix mistakes and bind off. They will also have the chance to make their own headband and will leave with the needles and skills to continue knitting at home.

The Seasoned Spoon, a non-profit cooperativ­e café committed to serving locally, and whenever possible, organicall­y sourced food at affordable prices, is located at 1600 West Bank Dr., Champlain College.

Swim lessons

Registrati­on continues for the winter session of swim lessons beginning Jan. 8 at the Trent University Athletic Centre and more classes than ever before are being offered, including lessons for both youth and adults in both group and private settings with lessons held Tuesdays, Thursday, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Also, leadership courses, including Bronze Star, Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross, Emergency First Aid with CPR B, and National Lifeguard Re-Certificat­ion will be offered in January.

Holiday help for parents

Need a little more time to get everything ready for Christmas? Without kids? Play Café, offers child minding to help you get all those preparatio­ns done. One session has taken place, while another will be offered Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon.
