Stuff our Sox: Effort about giving

Emmanuel United Church fills handmade stockings

- NAOMI STOCK naomi.stock@gmail.com

More than 100 Christmas Socks are stuffed and ready to be delivered! This is the 49th year that Stuff our Sox (SOS) has been preparing stockings for others in the community. It began as The Columba Club at St Andrew’s United Church and for the past three years has been a successful project of Emmanuel United Church.

The red flannel socks are made from scratch and cut, sewn and decorated by members of the congregation. The empty socks were distributed in early December and filled by members of the congregation. Some of these congregation members are in their 90s and still take home an empty sock to fill.

The socks are stuffed with a variety of items including games, sweets, toiletries, gift cards, essentials and warm clothing such as mitts, hats and socks. The stockings are labelled for men, women, teens and children and delivered to wherever there is a need in our community, including Brock Mission, Cameron House and the Youth Emergency Shelter (YES).

The members of Emmanuel United Church “hope that these Santa Socks bring a little love and a smile to the people who receive them. Merry Christmas.”
