Fleming SAC launches The Inside Ride fundraiser
A fundraiser making its way across Canada as part of what is being billed as the first indoor cycling challenge supporting cancer victims and their families will roll into Peterborough at the end of next month.
The event, set for Fleming College’s Steele Centre on March 30, is the result of a partnership between the college’s Student Administrative Council (SAC) and The Inside Ride, a campuswide fundraising effort battling childhood cancer.
The two-hour cycling celebration of the same name is fun, safe, promotes volunteerism and encourages physical and healthy activity, organizers stated in announcing the event at the college Monday.
Teams of six will compete against each other in six rounds of cycling, 10 minutes each, with a break in between to switch cyclists.
Noah Whitmore, a member of the SAC board of directors and a driving force behind the effort, said the event will have positive outcomes for all involved.
“This event is a fun and meaningful way to engage the student body as a whole, (including) varsity teams, staff, faculty, individual programs, and clubs. It’s a great way to get people physically active on campus,” he stated in a release.
“This will also build school spirit in students, build each student individually, and the children who are in need of aid will get the support they deserve.”
This “party with a purpose” is an opportunity to deliver meaning into our lives and is a chance to come together to build a unity of spirit, of fun, of teamwork, and of pride for everyone at Fleming College, Whitmore added.
