- CAROLINE MCCONNELL SPECIAL TO THE EXAMINER northcrest_column@yahoo.com

The YWCA Peterborough Haliburton Empty Bowls fundraiser is happening March 1 at noon at The Venue. All proceeds directly support YWCA JustFood and Nourish, food programs that look at the root causes of poverty, promote equity and provide connection through food.

At the event, guests enjoy a delicious lunch prepared and donated by local restaurants and businesses, and have a choice of selecting either a handcrafted bowl or a charitable tax receipt. There is the option of dining in at The Venue, 286 George St. N., or new this year, pre-ordering and having lunch delivered (within Peterborough). There is also a limited number of early bird tickets which allow the purchaser early access at 11:30 a.m. for the best selection of lunch options and bowls.

All bowls for the event are created and donated by local artisans from the Artisans Centre Peterborough, the Kawartha Potters Guild, and the Kawartha Wood Turners Guild. Participating restaurants include Amandala’s, Ashburnham Ale House, B.E. Catering, Black Honey Dessert and Coffeehouse, By The Bridge, Fresh Dreams, Island Cream Caribbean Cuisine, La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant, Pastry Peddler, Rare Grill House, Sam’s Place, Stickling’s Bakery and Bistro, The Cheese Shop, The Old Smoke House, and The Pin.

Tickets cost $40 for dining in, and $50 for early bird tickets or the lunch-to-go (delivery option).
