Bluesman Jack de Keyzer headlines Market Hall Saturday

Winner of two Juno awards, eight Maple Blues awards

Fresh off his latest Juno nomination, blues musician Jack de Keyzer is coming to Peterborou­gh.

De Keyzer returns to the Market Hall with his band on Saturday for his Checkmate tour.

“Checkmate,” his latest album, was recently nominated for a Juno award for blues album of the year. De Keyzer also received recent success while competing in the 35th annual Memphis Internatio­nal Blues Challenge where he and his band were semifinali­sts.

In the past, de Keyzer has been awarded two Junos and has been named a Maple Blues winner eight times.

“Checkmate” is described as an electrifyi­ng tribute to the classic blues of Albert King, Howlin’ Wolf, Elmore James and Robert Johnson.

De Keyzer’s latest tour is being touted as a “must-see” show.

De Keyzer plays the blues worldwide. One of Canada's most awarded and in demand blues guitarists, he has released 11 CDs and one DVD. An exciting live performer, soulful vocalist and world-class songwriter, de Keyzer performs an average of 150 shows per year and has wowed audiences at many major jazz and blues festivals.

In addition to the Juno and Maple Blues awards, de Keyzer won first place in the Internatio­nal Songwritin­g Competitio­n and CBC’s Great Canadian Blues Award from a poll of radio listeners.

Always touring with an incredible band of top musicians, de Keyzer is a master of blues music and was recently inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in the United States.

De Keyzer is performing at the Market Hall in downtown Peterborou­gh on Feb. 16 starting at 8 p.m.
