After months of waiting, a Peterborough alt-pop musician is excited to finally get to share more about her appearance on CTV’s “The Launch” after the episode of the reality music competition airs next Wednesday.

“I’m just looking forward to being able to talk about it … I’m excited to see what comes from it, too,” Jayde Mosher said Wednesday.

In the 60-minute television show, industry experts match artists with the right songs for their voices before they learn them over two days.

Five emerging artists perform the same song before the field is narrowed to two contestants who sing in front of a live audience. The winner then has their version of the song released, helping them “launch” their career.

Mosher’s Season 2 episode was filmed over about a week in October — but she can’t say much about it, yet, other than she has become friends with several other contestants and has made plans to work with them in the future.

In the last-minute video submission that

got her onto the show, she introduced herself, sang a song and spoke about her musical journey. That journey includes winning local singing competitions Snofest Idol and Kawartha Idol in 2015.

Mosher has been focused solely on her music — which she said doesn’t fit into any mainstream genre — since graduating from Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School in 2017.

She acknowledges the risk involved in that.

“But I honestly don’t see myself doing anything else with my life … it’s always been about the music,” she said.

The Cobourg native, who grew up in Peterborough, is preparing to release a new EP in the fall.

Her latest independent release, 2018’s “Ultra Violence,” has accrued more than 400,000 streams on music streaming service Spotify.

“It’s pretty crazy,” said Mosher, who taught herself to play piano and guitar at about age nine just so she could play songs by Timmins musician Lights. She also lists Dua Lipa, Lennon Stella and Ariana Grande as musical influences.

Mosher wrote and recorded her first EP as a Grade 11 student in 2016, produced by Peterborough native Rob Wells of Sony ATV Music Publishing.

After her graduation, she met producers at a songwriting event in Toronto and eventually worked with them last September in Montreal. She has enjoyed what they have come up with and plans to continue recording with them.

Her short-term plans are more of the same, with bold long-term aspirations.

“I want to be at the top of the top. I just want to be working that hard all the time, releasing albums and all that fun stuff,” she said.

Mosher thanked her family and friends for their support, adding she wouldn’t have got to where she is without it. “I’ve learned a lot from every person that I’ve met in music. Everyone passes along little tidbits they have got here and there.”
