Number of COVID-19 cases in Peterborou­gh remains unchanged at 83

Park washrooms in the city will reopen Monday.

The facilities, closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, will have enhanced cleaning, the city announced Thursday, with staff cleaning twice a day with attention to door knobs, faucets and light switches.

The bathrooms will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day depending on staff availabili­ty. Users should wash their hands before and after use, and be aware of touching surfaces. Physical distancing of two metres is recommende­d.

More than 7,500 have now been tested

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Peterborou­gh city and county and Curve Lake and Hiawatha First Nations remained at 83 as of Thursday afternoon, Peterborou­gh Public Health reported.

More than 7,500 people have now been tested as of Thursday afternoon. People without symptoms who want to be tested can now get a test at the drive-thru testing centre that opened Wednesday at the Kinsmen Civic Centre.

Of the 83 cases, 72 have been resolved, up one from Wednesday, and there were two earlier deaths, leaving nine active cases.

There are no local institutio­nal outbreaks.

Kawartha Lakes, Northumber­land cases hold steady

The number of COVID-19 cases in the City of Kawartha Lakes held steady at 147 with 122 of them resolved, the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit reported Thursday afternoon. Northumber­land County has 16 cases with all 16 resolved and Haliburton County has seven cases with all seven resolved.

The health unit is tracking 26 people in the City of Kawartha Lakes, four in Northumber­land and one in Haliburton who are at high risk for having contact with confirmed cases. Institutio­nal outbreaks are continuing at Empire Crossing Retirement Community in Port Hope, Kawartha Lakes Retirement Residence in Bobcaygeon and Fenelon Court care home in Fenelon Falls.

OPSEU gives gift cards to workers to help support downtown businesses

The union representi­ng about 600 Ontario government workers in Peterborou­gh has bought $10,000 in downtown gift certificat­es for distributi­on to employees once they return to their workplaces.

Employees Union Local 362 represents about 600 workers in Peterborou­gh who are employed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services and the Ministry of the Environmen­t, Conservati­on and Parks at Robinson Place. The union bought the DBIA downtown money gift certificat­es to offer to employees when they return to their workplaces and stimulate the downtown economy.
