Cruise Nights at Craftworks have been cancelled for season
If the COVID-19 crisis and the resulting restrictions and closures weren’t enough to rock our world, racial tensions are causing major issues.
Police brutality and outright racism is the second virus that is running rampant in our world today. Neither of these crises will be eradicated easily but both must be.
COVID-19 has killed many people around the world just as racism has.
I have no idea why racism has been tolerated or why white has been considered superior to other races, but this mindset cannot continue. Just as we must change our former normal to protect against COVID we must rethink our social attitudes about what is acceptable when it comes to race.
No skin colour should be better or lesser than any other. Racism is a taught behaviour just as tolerance is taught. We can make our world better and safer for all. We need to take a stand and not be afraid to stand up against racism.
Cruise Night at Craftworks cancelled
Yet another cancellation of a summer favourite, Cruise Night at Craftworks, a Fowlers Corners Lions Club fundraiser, is the latest COVID-19 pandemic casualty.
The decision was in keeping with the requirements of the various levels of government and guided by the expert advice of local and provincial public health authorities.
All indications point to continued social distancing restrictions for months to come and the Lions could not hold an event that puts the public, sponsors and volunteers at risk.
Cruise Nights at Craftworks will return bigger and better in 2021.
Reminders that Canada Day celebrations, Ducktona 2020, Lioness Pancake breakfast and Emily Cemetery Decoration service are also cancelled.
Grade 8 graduate signs
If you are driving through the area you may see “2020 Graduate Scott Young” signs posted at various homes. Grade 8 students won’t be having the traditional June graduation ceremony, so staff decided to recognize the students with individual signs on their front yards ... such a wonderful recognition for the students.
