Daily life during a pandemic is starting to feel normal

Cancellation of spring and summer events continue as precautionary measures during COVID-19

As businesses begin to slowly reopen often in different ways, we begin to realize how our COVID world has begun to feel normal.

It now feels normal to wait in line for almost everything, to see footprints on the ground to indicate where we should stand, for hand sanitizer to be at every store entrance, for shopping carts to be washed down after each customer.

What would have seemed abnormal six months ago is now our new normal, we think it normal to wear a mask when we can’t social distance.

In brain tumour circles, we talk about the new normal, life after diagnosis which looks nothing like pre-diagnosis life.

We are all going to have a new normal in COVID times.

We will get used to doing everyday things in our new normal life.

These changes are just as scary as the days of COVID because they are filled with unknowns. We don’t know how to do regular things safely.

It will take time to get used to it but we will.

The Omemee Foodbank has remained open throughout the crisis and is always in need of donations of non-perishable food items and monetary donations.

Frontline workers

Be Crazy Designs, just west of Omemee on Highway 7 has a beautiful metal sculpture dedicated to front-line workers. If you haven’t seen it, make it a point to drive out and see it. Front-line workers have been such an integral part of the COVID success and should be recognized.

Cancelled events

The Victoria Beef Producers summer barbecue has been cancelled for 2020, one of many Omemee-area events to be called off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Another cancellation which is not unexpected: Canada Day celebrations in Omemee have been kiboshed by the pandemic as has the Lioness’ annual pancake breakfast.

Cruise Night at Craftworks, a Fowlers Corners Lions Club fundraiser, won’t be happening.

So many cancellations but some events can’t be cancelled ... spring planting, spring flowers, warmer weather.

Our world has undergone so many changes in the past few months, but some aspects of our lives remain the same.
