Kyle Rioux-Stansbury is being remember as a happy-go lucky guy who could light up a room with his smile.

Pauline Rioux says the Coroner’s Office has told her that her son suffered a seizure behind the wheel before he was killed early on the morning of June 23 after his car struck multiple utility poles on Park Street.

Emergency responders were called to the intersection of Park and Townsend streets around 12:30 a.m.

City police say the investigation is ongoing as investigators are still in the process of completing the reconstruction of the collision. They’re also completing other investigative steps and waiting for results from the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.

Witnesses say bystanders rushed to help Rioux-Stansbury, but he had no vitals signs and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“He had a big heart,” Rioux said.

“I am going to miss his big smile and outgoing character.”

Rioux said her son’s pride and joy were his two sons, Johnny, 5, and Thomas, 2.

“He was such a loving father,” Rioux explains, adding that her son always had fun activities planned for his boys. “They are going to miss him a lot.”

The 32-year-old was born and raised in Peterborough and attended Kenner Collegiate.

Rioux says her son was a legend in the skateboard community, winning several skateboarding awards as a youngster. A memorial with several bouquets of flowers rests at the scene of the crash with two skateboards attached to a utility pole.

“Everyone remembers him as a famous skateboarder,” Rioux explains.

A GoFundMe account has been set up by a family friend to help Rioux and the children’s mother raise the young boys. Rioux says the boys don’t fully understand what has happened.

“I am hoping to get them all the help they need and raise some money for college,” Rioux said.
