All kinds of spooky fun at the library this Halloween

Online trivia contest and photo challenge as library celebrates 125 years in Lakefield

On Thursday at 8:30 p.m., the Selwyn Public Library is offering Spooky Online Trivia for Adults. Gather your friends and family for some spooky trivia in honour of the Halloween season.

Trivia Night will take place online using Zoom and the game is played using Kahoot. Instructio­ns and the Zoom link will be emailed out the morning of Trivia night. To register, go to mypublicli­brary.ca or phone 705-292-8022.

The Selwyn Public Library will also be hosting a Halloween Family Photo Scavenger Hunt Oct. 31. The list of things to find and photograph will be emailed to all who register.

Simply do your photo scavenger hunt at home and then email your completed photos to the library.

Photos will be judged on originalit­y, creativity and completion. There will be extra points for dressing up and prizes will be awarded. To register, go to mypublicli­brary.ca or email Kathleen at kcharlton@mypublicli­brary.ca for more informatio­n.

The Lakefield library is celebratin­g 125 years of history in 2020. To celebrate the history of the Lakefield branch, the Selwyn Public Library has created a Lakefield Library History blog, which features a digital collection of photograph­s, articles and miscellane­a from the past.

The Selwyn Public Library wants to connect with you online. This fall, there will be daily social-media posts, including Maker Mondays, Trivia Tuesdays, Workout Wednesdays and Live @ Night on Thursdays, which will be a Facebook Live event where Heidi shares the summary of two books you might want to check out. There will also be an Autumn Photo Contest during October for teens and adults. The theme for the photo contest is: “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” (L.M. Montgomery). Enter as many times as you like.

There will be prizes, such as a 10-pack of greeting cards with the winning photo, and one winner per age category. Photos will be judged on connection to theme and visualizat­ion.

Lakefield Lions Club

The Lakefield Lions Club will be organizing the Lakefield Santa Claus Parade differentl­y this year. It will be a drive-by parade, where the floats are set up and stationary up and down the street across from the Lakefield Legion and the Lakefield Curling Club.

Township of Selwyn

Selwyn Township will be commemorat­ing Local Government Week from Monday to Friday this week. You can test your municipal knowledge during Local Government Week by joining the Township on social media for Selwyn trivia. Play daily for the chance to win an awesome prize. Waste Reduction Week will be from Monday to Sunday this week. To celebrate Waste Reduction Week, Selwyn Township will be hosting two socialmedi­a contests focused on two of the seven Waste Reduction Week themes: plastic and textile waste reduction.
