Bid made for legal pot shop to be established on Water Street
An application has been made to open a new legal marijuana store on Water Street near the Trent University campus in the north end of Peterborough.
Kawartha Leafs has applied to open the store in Unit 2 of the mini-plaza at 1535 Water St.
The application is in the midst of a public notice period. People have until Oct. 28 to submit comments about the proposed application to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario online.
The Water Street application is one of eight in Peterborough seeking approval from the commission since the province halted the lottery system and opened the market wide open to qualifying applicants.
Three stores have been allowed to open so far: Growers Retail at 225 George St. N., Happy Dayz at 291 George St. N. and The Peace Pie at 408 George St. N.
The other seven Peterborough applications are:
> Mellow Leaf at 724 Lansdowne St. W.
> Sessions Cannabis at 550 Lansdowne St. W. Unit 15
> Northern Lights Cannabis at 51 Lansdowne St. W.
> Miss Jones at the Portage Place plaza at 1154 Chemong Rd.
> Sparq Retail at 861 Lansdowne St. W. Unit 4
> Sparq Retail at 340 Charlotte St.
> Kasa Kana at 1840 Lansdowne St. W. Unit 8
Meanwhile, a second application has been made for a legal marijuana store in Bobcaygeon.
The public notice period ends Oct. 31 for a bid by Rokeby Cannabis to open up at 48 Main St. in Bobcaygeon.
Trease Inc.’s application to open at 7 King St. E. in Bobcaygeon remains in progress.
There are four other applications in the City of Kawartha Lakes awaiting approval:
> Growers Retail at 566 Frank Hill Rd. in Fowlers Corners.
> The Lindsay Cannabis Store at 17 Kent St. W.
> The 420 Store at 370 Kent St. W.
> Alpine Smoke, 6666 Highway 35.
There are also two applications in Selwyn Township awaiting approval:
> 112 Queen St. Unit 2 in Lakefield.
> Flowertown Cannabis at 874 Ward St. Unit 4
The only application to emerge so far in Northumberland County is Mary J’s Cannabis at 38 King St. W. in Cobourg.
