- News@peterboroughdaily.com

Two new cases of COVID-19 were reported Monday by Peterborough Public Health.

There have now been 147 confirmed cases since March, with 136 resolved and two deaths in the spring, and nine active cases.

Since March, 48 per cent, or 70 cases, have been reported in men, while 52 per cent, or 77 cases, in women.

Health workers have tested about 33,850 people since March, or 22.9 per cent of the population of Peterborough Public Health’s coverage area: the city and county, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation.

Of those, nine patients have been hospitalized, three of those in the hospital’s intensive care unit.

One in five residents has been tested at least once.

Testing moved to Northcrest Arena on Monday for the winter season, after several weeks at Eastgate Memorial Park. All tests are by appointment only. Drive-up appointment-free testing is no longer being offered.

Tests can also be conducted at the Peterborough Regional Health Centre, by appointment.

Durham Region

The province, which had been considering moving Durham Region back into Stage 2 status after a spike in COVID-19 cases, opted against doing so Monday.

There were 851 new cases reported in the province Monday, 23 of those in Durham Region.

Premier Doug Ford said Monday the province is watching the situation in Durham and in Halton Region and will make a decision at some point.

Stage 2 status means tighter restrictions meant to curb the spread of COVID-19. The province rolled Toronto, Ottawa and Peel Region back to Stage 2 earlier this month.

Mayors in Durham Region have expressed concerns about the impact a Stage 2 rollback would have on businesses.
