Lions raise funds for childhood cancer care with drive-thru dinner

The Chemung Lake Lions report that their drive-thru pasta dinner on Oct. 17 was a great success. It was located at Wesley Church from 3 to 6 p.m. and the Lions are hoping to plan another drive-thru dinner.

The Chemung Lions would like to thank their members Lydia, Keith, Dale, Joanne, Bob, George, Ann and Steve. They would also like to thank “Chemung Lake District Lions Irregular’s ladies” for all the help. The funds raised will go to the Childhood Cancer Unit at PRHC.

Selwyn Public Library

The Selwyn Public Library will be hosting a Halloween Family Photo Scavenger Hunt Saturday. The list of things to photograph will be emailed to all who register. Simply do your photo scavenger hunt at home and then email your completed photos to the library. Photos will be judged on originalit­y, creativity and completion. The Lakefield Library is celebratin­g 125 years of history in 2020. To celebrate the history of the Lakefield Branch, the Selwyn Public Library has created a Lakefield Library History blog, which features a digital collection of photograph­s, articles and miscellane­a from the past. Go to lakefieldl­ibrary.wordpress.com and “follow” the blog to see regular updates. You click “follow” in the lower right corner to receive email notificati­ons.

There will be an Autumn Photo Contest during October for teens and adults. The theme for the photo contest is: “I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers” (L.M. Montgomery). There will be prizes, such as a 10-pack of greeting cards with the winning photo, and one winner per age category. Photos will be judged on connection to theme and compositio­n. Lakefield Lions Club

The Lakefield Lions Club will be organizing the Lakefield Santa Claus Parade differentl­y this year. It will be a drive-by parade, where the floats are stationary on the street across from the Lakefield Legion and the Lakefield Curling Club starting at 1 p.m. on Nov. 22. Trent Valley Archives

Trent Valley Archives will be offering ghost walks this October. The Wicked Walk of the West will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday this week.

This tour will begin at Driscoll Terrace and will feature stories of the Instant Weaver of Driscoll Terrace, the Night Watchman at Quaker Oats, Sarah and Nicole who allegedly haunt the Lundy House and the strange demise of noted barrister John Burnham.

The East Side Stories tour will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday this week. It will start at the Peterborou­gh Museum and Archives, and you’ll hear about ghosts, flying tools and strange noises at the Lift Lock; the kindly nun at St. Joseph’s Hospital; and the resident dapper gentleman ghost “Chappy” who allegedly haunts the Theatre Guild, and even has his own seat there.

There will be COVID -19 screening prior to the tour and attendees are expected to be physically distanced at all times.

The cost is $20 per person, and registrati­on and payment in advance are required.
