Peterborough Transit expands some routes, streets added to Trans Cab

-

With ridership on the rise this fall and demand expected to grow over the holiday season, Peterborough Transit is expanding local bus service as of Sunday.

Extra trips will be added to Route 2 (Chemong) on Saturdays and Sundays from 11a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

A new route will take effect on Route 7 (Lansdowne). Trips to Trent will follow the Route 7 pattern (not 7A), using Rogers Street and Maria Street and the Maria Street bridge instead of Ashburnham Drive, Hunter Street and the Lift Lock tunnel.

An extra morning 7B trip will be added at 7:50 a.m., leaving from Willowcreek Plaza for Fleming College, and a 7B return trip will be added, leaving Fleming at 2:15 p.m. and heading back to Willowcreek Plaza.

Trans Cab

Peterborough Transit is also launching a pilot expansion of the Trans Cab program in the southeast part of the city. The service uses taxis to get passengers to areas not serviced by buses.

Beginning Sunday, the service will be expanded to streets west of Bensfort Road and east of Otonabee Drive, including Denne Crescent, Collison Avenue, Collison Crescent, Riverview Heights, Maxwell Avenue, Barker Avenue, Sherin Avenue, Southpark Drive, Stewart Drive, Crystal Drive, Trailview Drive, Abound Crescent, Middlefield Road, Cornelius Court, St. Patrick’s Street, Finchurst Road and Sabatino Court.

The Trans Cab location will change from Bensfort Road at Collison Avenue to the shelter on Otonabee Drive at Milford Gate.

For customers travelling to Otonabee Drive at Milford Gate using Trans Cab to catch Route 7, be sure to be in an area marked as a Trans Cab zone.

Call 705-748-4443 at least an hour before arriving at a bus stop. A taxi will arrive and take passengers to the nearest Trans Cab stop (marked on the map as TC).

The Trans Cab fare is $3, which includes the taxi and bus portion of the trip, and should be paid to the cab driver.

To travel from Milford Gate using Trans Cab (via Route 7): Riders should board a bus on a route serviced by Trans Cab and advise the driver they need a Trans Cab, paying the regular bus fare plus 50 cents for Trans Cab.

The driver will give riders a transfer and radio for a cab, which will meet them at the stop and take them to their destinations.

Due to high customer volumes, Trans Cab cannot guarantee trips from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. and from 2:15 to 3:15 p.m., Monday to Friday.
