Weapons, narcotics seized during drug trafficking arrest
Weapons and narcotics were seized after two people from Oshawa were arrested by the Peterborough County OPP community street crime unit on Wednesday. The pair were arrested at a traffic stop on Ashburnham Drive in Peterborough as part of an investigation in which a search warrant was used to raid a home on Monaghan Avenue in Oshawa, police said. Officers seized a handgun, pellet gun, ammunition, spring-loaded knife, bear spray, 59 grams of fentanyl, 50 grams of crystal methamphetamine, five grams of crack cocaine, $7,300 in Canadian currency, scales and cellphones, police said. Michael Welsh, 51, of Oshawa was charged with possessing methamphetamine for trafficking, two counts of possessing an opioid for trafficking, possessing cocaine for trafficking, possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of an imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited device or ammunition for a dangerous purpose, possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a probation order, failing to comply with a release order, failing to comply with a probation order, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition and driving while prohibited. Elizabeth O’Toole, 53, of Oshawa was charged with occupying a vehicle knowing there was a firearm, possessing an opioid for trafficking, possessing cocaine for trafficking, possessing methamphetamine for trafficking and possessing property obtained by crime over $5,000. Both were held in custody for a bail hearing Thursday.
